Tyler Mayor Martin Heines cuts the cake at a reception at Main Street Gallery Thursday for the 20th anniversary of Tyler voters approving the half-cent sales tax. Tyler adopted the half-cent sales tax in 1995. Each year, it collects approximately $13 million in half-cent sales tax revenues, which has allowed the city to pay cash for capital improvements.
