Maria Lopez, 2, of Tyler, wears a green cloak to portray the Virgin Mary at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parade Sunday evening Dec. 11 in Tyler, Texas. She attended the parade with her mother Fabiola and brother Joshua, 7. December 12 marks the feast day of the Virgin Mary, or Lady of Guadalupe, the patron saint of the Americas who appeared to Juan Diego in Mexico City in 1531. Her appearance lead many Mexicans to convert to Christianity, and they show their devotion and gratefulness to Mary through the celebration that includes dance and music as a symbolism of prayer.
